Spring Break

We made it!  I hope you all have a great 2 weeks.  The following homework assignments are due the day we get back – Monday, April 3rd.

Math: 5 10Marks assignments (each are 10 questions).

Read: Read something!  Read a book, read magazine article, or go on Achieve.  I will not be formally checking for anything, but find something enjoyable and read it!

Miscellaneous: Friday planner signature & Math quiz signature

Yearbook, Pictures, 6th grade Dance

Yearbook – Today was the last day that a yearbook could be ordered by check or cash, but you still have until April 3rd to pay with a credit card online.  Go to ybpay.lifetouch.com and use the school code 11825817 to order.  The price is $35 for a soft cover and $40 for hard cover.

Spring Pictures – Spring picture proofs were sent home yesterday.  There were 5 sheets in the packet.  If you want to buy the pictures, keep however many of the 5 sheets you want to purchase, bring back the other proofs along with your payment.  If you do not want to purchase the pictures you must send them back to school by Friday, March 17th.

Promotion Pictures – I do not have the proofs for the promotion (cap and gown option) pictures.  I would expect to have them by the time we get back from spring break.

6th grade dance RSVP – Your child brought home an RSVP letter for the 6th grade dance.  Please send this back ASAP because the VAPA dance teacher needs to put together dance partners.  The dance is on May 19th from 6pm to 8pm.

6th grade pictures tomorrow

This is going to be a little confusing, so please bear with me.  Tomorrow the students will be taking two different pictures.  The first picture is the panoramic picture of all 6th grade students together.  The second picture is the 6th grade promotion picture.  Please send your child to school tomorrow looking his/her best.  Attached is a form to let you choose what background you would like for your child’s picture.  Your child is being sent home with a black and white copy of this flyer for you to make your selection.  Please refer back to this digital version for color choices.  Students will NOT be in a cap and gown unless you note on the form that you request a cap and gown.  They will be wearing their own clothes in these pictures.  You do NOT need to send any money tomorrow.  All students take pictures, and proofs are sent home in a few weeks with an option to buy the pictures.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

Conferences, Family Movie Night, ELM

Conference Sign Up If you have not signed up yet, please use this link to sign up ASAP.  These are student led conferences, so there is space available for multiple students in each time slot.  If none of these times work for you, please just let me know.  I am flexible!

The following students have not yet signed up: Maia, AJ, Reyanna, Adriel, Jacob, Brandon, and Vanessa V.

Family Movie Night This Friday is Family Movie Night.  Terrell’s Mom, Sally Crew, is looking for parent volunteers to help sell nachos this Friday starting around 5:30pm.  The movie night starts at 6pm.  If you are able to help, please email her at aracely.crew89@gmail.com.  Thank you!

ELM Yellow and Blue Forms – Due tomorrow!!!!!!!!

The following students have not turned in their forms: Maia, Ximena, Madison, Olivia, Reyanna, Ethan, Adriel, Kiana, Brandon, and Vanessa V.

Eastlake Middle Information

Registration information for ELM is being sent home today.  Here are some things you should know…

(Blue) 7th grade course offerings sheet – This is your child’s chance to choose his/her top 5 electives for 7th grade.  This form needs to be turned in to me by March 1st.

(Yellow) Additional Student Information sheet – This is general information that ELM uses to register your child for 7th grade.  This form needs to be turned in to me by March 1st.

Proof of Immunization & Proof of Residency – ELM does not currently have a due date for these items, but it is going to be sooner than later.  They will use the contact information from the yellow sheet to contact you with more information about these items that they need before your child can start 7th grade.

Placement in leveled reading and math classes – I will be filling out a form for each child indicating the current Lexile level, 5th grade CAASPP scores, CELDT scores, and study/behavior habits.  This information will be used to place your child in appropriate classes.

Compacted Math Program – ELM has an accelerated math option.  7th, 8th, and 9th grade math courses are taught in just the 7th and 8th grade years.  With this option, your child would be entering high school ready for 10th grade math.  It is my understanding that the content is not harder, but it is just at a much quicker place.  There is a placement test for this option at ELM on May 15th and May 16th at 3:30pm and May 19th at 1:30pm in the ELM pavilion.

ELM Website – More information is available on this page regarding 7th grade orientation.

If you have any further questions, I can do my best to answer them.  The more direct option would be to contact ELM at 619-591-4000.

Eastlake Middle School

Please note the dates for Eastlake Middle School 7th grade parent orientation night!  In addition, the students will ALL be going on a visit to Eastlake Middle school on Wednesday, February 15th.  Permission slips for this visit are being sent home tonight!  After the field trip, students should be receiving a class course registration packet which you can fill out with your child.

Letters & Spending Money for Camp

Camp is quickly approaching!  If you want your child to receive letters from home while at camp, please have the letters written ahead of time.  You can either give the letters to me, or you can drop them off in the office with your child’s name.  If you are sending multiple letters, please indicate which day you want your child to open each letter.  Also, if you want your child to have spending money at the camp store (souvenirs and snacks), please have your child give this money to me sometime between now and when we leave for camp.  This needs to be done ahead of time.

6th Grade Camp

marstonentrance

For those of you that were unable to attend yesterday’s camp meeting, here are the highlights:

This Camp Marston Welcome Video will answer many of the questions you have about camp.

Camp Fee:  The cost for camp is $275.  We encourage you to turn in your child’s camp money as soon as possible.  Those that fundraised were given a lesser amount due.  It is due the week after we get back from winter break.  Cash or check (made out to Camarena Elementary) can be turned in to me.  I will give you/your child a receipt when the money is turned in.  You can turn in the money in installments ($50/week or something similar) if that works better for you.

Camp Store:  On the last page of the camp packet sent home a few weeks ago is the cost of items sold at the camp store.  Students can purchase 1 drink and 1 snack each day.  They have 1 day where they can purchase souveneer items.  If you want your child to have money for the camp store, you need to give the money to me ahead of time.  I then put it in a separate envelope and give it to the camp.  The camp store uses the envelope similar to a mini bank account, and money is deducted from the envelope each time an item is purchased throughout the week.  If your child is planning on only purchasing small items and snacks, approximately $20-$25 is enough.  However, if you want him/her to buy a shirt or a sweatshirt, they will need more money.  Please refer to the last page in the camp letter for all item costs and discuss this with your child ahead of time.  You do not need to send any money at all.  This is entirely optional, but they do like to have a little money for snacks.  All money left over will be sent back to school.

Health History Form:  Please turn in this paper ASAP.  Nurse Pauline has to go through each form before we go to camp, so we want to give her as much time as possible.

What to Bring and Not Bring: There is a list on the camp letter that was sent home.  Please make sure your child has a jacket, poncho, and TWO pairs of comfortable tennis/hiking shoes.

Medications:  If your child already has medicine at school, that medicine will automatically be sent to camp.  If your child starts taking any new medications between now and camp, you can give the medicine to Nurse Pauline the morning we go to camp.  She will be in the MPR with a big box of all medications going with us to camp.

Letters:  If you want your child to read any letters from you while at camp, you need to write them ahead of time.  Turn in as many letters as you wish (you can label each envelope with the day you want your child to open it) to the office or to me.  They will be “delivered” to the kids each evening.

Room Assignments:  As the time gets near, each student will have the opportunity to name 3 people he/she wants to room with at camp.  The teachers will then make the room assignments based on these preferences.  The students will not know their room assignments until they arrive at camp.

Communication: Cell phones are prohibited, and your child will not have any means of communicating with you during the week of camp.  This is scary for many of you – I know!!  I will be at camp taking pictures, and I promise to post plenty of pictures using the Homeroom App on a regular basis.  You can, however, email me throughout the week if you have any concerns.
